Cryostasis: 4-Way vs. 3-Way + PhysX Performance Comparison (EVGA SR-2, X5680s, GTX480s)
I get asked the question all the time about physX and is it worth it. That is a hard question! In general, if you like ATI and the primary games that you play with ATI hardware are optimized for ATI then there is no reason to switch to Nvidia for physX support. But if you want better drivers support, more games optimized and/or the primary games you play are Nvidia optimized…then there is no reason not to add physX support. The question is, if you have Nvidia…is it better to run more graphics cards in SLI or less in SLI while using one for dedicated physX. Tough question again, and it depends of course. Everything depends…right?
From what I have been learning through some testing, if the game uses physX heavily such as Cryostasis, Metro 2033 and Batman there may be a good reason to dedicate a card to physX, if the game doesn’t use physX heavily, then I would keep as many cards in SLI as possible. Please watch the video and see if you agree! Thx! Enjoy!
a 480 for physX
sounds normal
what about fps with just 3 480s no ded physx?
since driver support for quad card blows
you should do 3way sli vs 4way sli 480 crysis bench
@urbanshaft There are all kinds of stuff that I want to make videos about, just don’t have the time. I will try and do some more physX testing videos as soon as I can.
Hardware physx is a scam and it’s just about dead.
@xIDemonHeroIx I can’t get the damn Crysis Benchamarks to work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I use STEAM and have both benches downloaded, but it says I need a patch to run it…and I haven’t figured it out yet. Help, if you can.
@oOcrazy95Oo I know, I know…
@evilcrow1001 I don’t necesarily disagree with you…but you are too close to being a fanboy, so I will take it with a grain of salt. HEHE
Thanks for watching.
@Trubyd44 just patch it manually, download 1.1 patch and 1.2 patch from filefront and install it xD.
@xIDemonHeroIx I tried that! …but it doesn’t work. It says something like I don’t have the game installed or something…and it doesn’t give me a chance to re-direct it to the install file.
@Trubyd44 lol that’s weird, but if you already bought the game and the bench doesnt work just download pirated version from the torrents and install the game again it wont hurt anyone =P
@Trubyd44 Great setup, let’s see some crysis gameplay and some Dirt 2, bad company 2.
nice to see a new video Trubyd
interesting results
Do a FLight Sim X bench! makes use of 32 threads!
David, I got a test for you. Do a video about Batman: AA and have 4-way GTX 480 vs. 3-way GTX 480 plus one GTX 480 for physx! And damn, you did exactly what I said, but with a different game. I wrote that before I knew what you did
nice vid
@trubyd44 can y do a crysis benchmark 4 way sli with 2 way sli plz..1920×1080 dx10 vh 16xqaa plz will ya,dont forget to reply me i will bring my dozens of friends to subscribe you.
i got a gtx 480 and a 9800GTX for physx
but i tried MANY games but at the end the 9800gtx almost dosnt do anything (0 load)
+ i tried cryo too
using the 257 drivers and i set physx to the 9800gtx
Great vid and very interesting results!.
But there’s less then a handful of physX games.
Physx isn’t a scam but its kinda pointless, only a few good games support it and really it doesn’t add much of an improvement. People who buy dedicated cards just for physx are dumb.
BTW I own dual 480s and used to own dual 470s so I am no ATI fanboy.
nice veideos!!!
Awesome video as always! I am surprised as much as you are that there was such a difference with a dedicated PhysX card. I guess an upgrade is in order!!!
Most expensive physics card you buy. . .But that does show it helps, when it’s used.
